Ode to an old Friend

Sometimes when we least expect it the worst possible news slaps you in the face.
So it was Sunday evening when we got the news that our old Buddy & pal Rex had passed.
I've mentioned him before, Fred's bestest & oldest runnin' buddy; a big ol' sweet loving 90 pound bunch of love. He had a truly amazing life that many Humans would be jealous of. We all shared so many wonderful times together....

We love you dear Rexy

Dog Days of Indian Summer

Here in the Bay Area we usually finally get our Summer after Labor Day. September, October (sometimes stretching into November; I can remember Thanksgivings where it was still 'shorts weather'). The temperatures in the 70s & 80s, the sunlight has a golden hue to it, all the doggies (not to mention the humans, too) are happy. The park is full of sunbathers, the streets crowded with people ambling around enjoying this last bit of warm weather. Balmy evenings that s-l-o-w-l-y cool down overnight.
My garden is still going strong; you'd think it's June, not almost Halloween!

I guess my point is to enjoy every possible moment because soon Daylight Savings will end; the rains will make their annual appearance. So remember these days when we're in the dark, wet days of January!

Dog Day Sunday

Well, it's been an interesting week since we 'launched' this version of DDW. Thursday was rainy; had the foresight to check the weather online before FRED& I went on our rounds - not a raindrop in sight. Naturally, halfway over to walk Bruce it started sprinkling lightly. I thought "oh well, this isn't too bad we'll be fine" It started sprinkling harder & harder. Had to towel Freddy off when we arrived; dried Bruce off too when we got back from his walk (not to mention my wet self). AND just as naturally 1/2 a block from home it stopped..........
Lesson: don't trust the Weatherman OR the so-called radar!!

Today was the complete opposite: Gorgeous sunny weather that we usually get this time of year ("Indian Summer"). Right as I had finished bathing Fred, our ol' buddy Rex showed up for an overnight stay. Rex is a mountain dog, from up near Yosemite; he's 90 pounds of love. A gentle giant. Fred's bestest & oldest buddy.

Tomorrow should be busy: Fred & Rex on a morning walk; Bruce mid-day & an extra evening walkie (his mom Deb is really busy with a rollout at her work); Fenix for a mid-day walk. Fenix is a sweet, sweet girl ( terrier mix, I think - I need to ask her Mom); she was abused & neglected and is a little shy. However she LOVES Fred & Doggy Daddy and really likes seeing us & coming over to hang out after her walk. In apartment or out on the deck. That's where Rex is right now.

Ahhhh, it's a dog's life.........!
